Question 3

One of my favorite quotes in the book 'Animal Dreams' by Barbara Kingsolver is when Loyd Peregrina says "If you want sweet dreams, you've got to live a sweet life."  This is one of my favorite quotes because it is about Loyd telling Codi that if she spends her whole life being unsure of herself and insecure, she won't get the most out of life.  Which is very true, life is what you make it, and if one makes it enjoyable then your life will be very fun filled.

My favorite character so far in the book is Loyd Peregrina, he is just so full of surprises and always is doing something exciting.  At first Loyd seemed as somewhat of a shallow, narrow minded, cocky man.  As we continue to get deeper and deeper into the book we see that there is much more to Loyd then first meets the eye.  He is a very sensitive, committed, and hardworking man.  What more could a woman like Codi ask for?

To me the most important scene in the book so far is when Codi reads the blunt letter that Hallie sent her from Nicaragua.  I choose this scene because it was a real eye opener and a turning point for Codi to see that not only is everyone else sick of hearing about her "pathetic life" but now Hallie is even done hearing about it!  Also in the letter Hallie made a point to show Codi just how lucky she was.  Through doing that Codi didn't necessary agree to that realization right away, but it for sure has stuck with her throughout the course of the book.

Question 2

Recently I read an article in a 'Lacrosse Magazine' called 'In It to Quinn It'.  The article was about how a woman named Quinn Carney started out as a regular old lacrosse player at a high school in West Virginia and now is in the starting line-up for Northwestern University lacrosse team.  Northwestern University came out on top at number one in the 2008 spring season.  Carney was playing in her high schools state championship game when a scout from Northwestern University came to watch another player on the team and while there the scout saw Carney and was amazed with her performance.  Shortly after Carny got an email from her coach saying that Northwestern University wanted to have a meeting with her as soon as possible and that they were considering her for their 2009 team.  She attended the meeting, and in the end they accepted her!  This goes to show that anything is possible and that anyone can end up going far in something they love.

Question 1

One of my favorite books is called 'The Secret Life of Bees' by Sue Monk Kidd. I really like this book because it was full of many characters and different emotions that let you really connect to the characters. My favorite character was Lily Owen, she is the main character and the closest to my age.  Kidd did an amazing job describing her feelings and what she thought, because of this I felt I really could relate to her and what she was going through.  The book itself takes place in 1964 in South Carolina.  It starts out with 14 year old Lily who's mother died when she was four, and she now lives with her abusive father an Rosaleen who is there to fill in as a mother like figure for Lily.  Lily isn't happy at home and is curious about what her mother was like, so she sets out on a journey with Rosaleen go find what her mothers background was.  They ended up at a cute old house where three older, black sisters lived.  She fit right in with them and it turns out her mother lived there a while back.  While living there Lily learned a lot about life and about her past.
